Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.

Dear Postcard Travellers,
Can luxury travel leave a light footprint?
As we celebrate the International Day of Zero Waste on March 30th, we’re spotlighting just a few of our many visionary partners who are proving that indulgence and sustainability can go hand in hand. These pioneers are redefining luxury by minimising waste, protecting fragile ecosystems and creating positive impacts that extend far beyond their properties.
Leading the way in Nepal is Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge, where single-use plastics have been almost eliminated, and waste is managed through composting and recycling.
How about a sustainable safari? Pugdundee Safaris offers plastic-free lodges in the heart of the Indian wilderness, and you can enjoy an African safari in solar-powered luxury at Lengishu in Kenya. If island life is more your style, Batu Batu has committed to reducing plastic waste on a Malaysian island paradise.

Enjoy a Plastic-Free Stay at Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge
Perched 1,000 feet above the Pokhara Valley with breathtaking Himalayan views, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge offers more than just tranquillity – it invites you to be part of an important sustainability journey. Perfect for pre- or post-trek stays or simply unwinding, the lodge blends comfort with conscious living.
Led by Ishwar Basnet, Senior Manager of Regenerative Tourism, and Chef Lalu in the kitchen, the lodge has eliminated almost all single-use plastics and ensures zero waste to landfill. Food waste is composted or fed to local livestock, generating biogas for the staff kitchen.
Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge also segregates and recycles metal and glass, paper is composted after recycling, and electronic waste is responsibly managed. Even garden waste is composted or mulched.
By choosing Tiger Mountain, you actively contribute to a sustainable future while enjoying an unforgettable Himalayan retreat.
Batu Batu: A Sustainable Island Escape
In fragile island habitats, reducing waste isn’t just a choice — it’s essential for preserving delicate ecosystems and protecting marine life. Batu Batu, in the Johor Marine Park on the uninhabited island of Pulau Tengah, demonstrates this deep commitment to island conservation.
Cher Chua-Lassalvy is the co-founder and Managing Director of Batu Batu - Pulau Tengah. Her vision for Batu Batu is one of harmony—where nature thrives alongside people. From the ground up, she helped build a resort deeply rooted in sustainability, pioneering zero-waste initiatives and marine conservation.
Surrounded by coconut groves, rocky outcrops and eight pristine beaches, this peaceful island retreat offers 22 beautifully crafted villas built by local carpenters using traditional Malay techniques.
Batu Batu reduces food waste by composting it to nourish the organic garden, and recyclables are weighed and sent to Clean & Happy Recycling in Mersing, with proceeds supporting the staff welfare fund.
Water dispensers replace plastic bottles, and toiletries are provided in refillable bottles, eliminating single-use plastics. Even used cooking and engine oil are responsibly collected for onward use. Plus, you can participate in a beach cleanup during your stay and really feel like you’re making a difference.
At Batu Batu, every effort ensures that your island escape leaves the lightest possible footprint on this fragile environment.
A Greener Safari: Pugdundee’s Plastic-Free Pledge
Explore India’s wilderness with Pugdundee Safaris, one of the country’s leading responsible safari operators. You’ll experience the best of Indian wildlife and hospitality through these six sustainable safari lodges newly onboarded by Postcard Travel: Waghoba Eco Lodge, Denwa Backwater Escape, Tree House Hideaway, Kanha Earth Lodge, Pench Tree Lodge and Kings Lodge.
Pugdundee Safaris is deeply committed to sustainability—achieving zero single-use plastic across six lodges and using solar power to meet 75 percent of their energy needs. The lodges are thoughtfully built using local, green architecture, and their premises are rewilded with native species, providing safe habitats for wildlife.
Waste reduction efforts include replacing plastic water bottles with reusable steel ones, replacing milk and coffee sachets with glass containers, and switching to steel sippers instead of tetra packs. Organic toiletries now come in glass dispensers, and waste bin liners are replaced with recycled paper bags.
These ongoing efforts ensure that Pugdundee’s lodges minimise their environmental impact while encouraging guests to embrace sustainable practices. Every safari is a step towards a greener planet.
Lengishu: Leading the Way in Zero-Waste Luxury African Safaris
Nestled in Kenya’s 32,000-acre Borana Conservancy, Lengishu offers a luxurious safari retreat with a firm commitment to sustainability. Every effort is made to minimise environmental impact, ensuring your stay leaves the lightest footprint possible.
Solar power provides electricity and heats water, while two solar-powered wells supply pure water that is filtered, bottled and carbonated on-site, eliminating the need for plastic bottles. Grey water is recycled, and rainwater is collected in a 300,000-litre tank for irrigation.
Additionally, a conservancy-wide recycling policy ensures zero waste to landfill, while a strict sourcing policy dramatically reduces food miles. At Lengishu, every detail is designed to protect the land, ensuring future generations can experience this remarkable wilderness.
