Welcome to Dixie’s Camp, our Expedition Camp at 83° South!
The journey to the South Pole includes an overnight stay at Dixie’s Camp on the High Polar Plateau.
A vital stop on our way from Wolf's Fang Runway to the South Pole, Dixie’s Camp is crewed by two WD team members for two months, who look after overnighting guests and refuel our FD83 aircraft, all in the perfect silence of Antarctica. Without their cheerfully stoic support, Dixie’s Camp wouldn't be possible.
Approximately 750km from the nearest humans and at an altitude of 2,640m and located at 83° 0’ 00” S. 8° 49’ 58” E on the High Polar Plateau, the sun never sets on our expedition camp during the season, a surreal outpost in the centre of the Great White Continent.
Although they may look like the tents used by Amundsen and Scott, our guest tents are made of a high-tech fabric - Helsport Rainguard® FR - designed to keep the tent taut and those within protected in high winds and changeable weather conditions.
You will be well looked-after as we experience camping in one of the wildest places on Earth, joining the select few who have ever spent a night in the beauty of the Polar Plateau. Dixie’s Camp is so remote, that their nearest neighbour was the International Space Station (ISS) orbiting over 400km overhead!
