Each of us has the power to make a difference by consciously choosing how we spend our tourism dollars. And, like Postcard Travel Club, The Long Run can help us choose more wisely.
The Long Run members, including leading eco-lodges and travel businesses, integrate responsible practices using the 4Cs framework. Additionally, The Long Run works with its members to create a 4C Impact Statement. This impact ‘bill’ shows how your stay at a Long Run member contributes to the local economy (Commerce) and to local Conservation, Community and Culture projects.
The Long Run also encourages its partners to attain the highest standards of sustainability through the Global Ecosphere Retreats® (GER®) certification.
When you book with one of The Long Run’s 60-plus members, you know your tourism dollars will make a positive impact.
Here is a sampling of The Long Run and Postcard Travel’s passionate partners:
Borana Lodge
Laikipia, Kenya
Welcome to Borana Lodge, nestled amid an ancient land, where some of the world’s rarest creatures roam. Cradled at Mt. Kenya's base in Laikipia, Kenya this 32,000-acre haven is home to the critically endangered black rhino, as well as the threatened white rhino.
More than 200 of these magnificent creatures roam free across 92,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness around Borana Lodge and across the adjacent unfenced Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. In fact, this is one of East Africa’s largest habitats for rhinos, as well as a host of other endangered species.
As East Africa's original family-owned ecolodge, Borana embraces sustainability. Solar power, a solar borehole and an organic permaculture farm are just some of this much-loved lodge’s eco-conscious features.
During your visit, you can track rhinos, monitor lions and contribute to local projects. And you can feel good knowing your stay contributes to the ecosystem's sustained vitality and the well-being of local communities.
Pacuare Lodge
Pacuare River, Costa Rica
Pacuare Lodge, Costa Rica, envelopes you in 840 acres of pristine rainforest along the Pacuare River. Here, you can let nature lead the way. Unwind in one of 19 bungalows seamlessly blending with the tropical foliage, and relax on your private riverside terrace.
Pacuare Lodge champions conservation. The lodge participates in jaguar research and howler monkey reintroduction, and as a visitor, you can help in their efforts. Pacuare also engages with Indigenous communities, fostering economic value for rainforest protection.
At Pacuare, 100 percent of the workforce is local. By setting up the Cultural Rescue Committee on the local Nairi Awari indigenous reserve, the lodge strives to keep native cultural values alive.
As a guest, you can indulge in eco-conscious adventures, from white-water rafting to canopy adventures, and leave a positive impact on the local ecosystem and communities.
Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge
Pokhara, Kaski District Nepal
Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge snuggles within seven stunning acres of mountain wilderness in Nepal. The lodge collaborates with the community for sustainable forest management, nurturing the natural landscape.
At Tiger Mountain, you can encounter over 280 butterfly species as well as a wealth of bird species within the lodge's pristine grounds. Engage in the Community Support Partnership Programme, ensuring community-led initiatives thrive, particularly in education.
The lodge echoes local architecture, offering traditional charm. From here, you can embark on unique day hikes or find peace through yoga, meditation, massage therapies or Ban Magan (Nepali for Forest Meditation).
Chumbe Island
Zanzibar Island, Tanzania
Chumbe Island, Tanzania, is an award-winning oasis southwest of Zanzibar. Here, you can explore East Africa’s best-preserved shallow coral reef at Chumbe Island Coral Park (CHICOP), hike through lush forest and relax at the zero-impact, eco-friendly lodge.
The 81-acre coral reef hosts 90 percent of East Africa’s hard coral species and 400 reef fish species. Encounter rare species like the coconut crab and green turtle, and see migrating humpback whales. As a Global Ecosphere Retreat, CHICOP seamlessly integrates ecotourism with conservation and education.
Stay in locally-crafted, open-air bungalows, enjoying ocean views, privacy, and sustainable amenities like rainwater harvesting and solar power.
