Guests who value privacy can get exclusive access to the pool for an hour. But remember to book your preferred slot during your reservation or upon arrival to secure it. Pool access is complimentary for bed and breakfast guests, while other visitors can get a membership to use it.
Curated Heritage Tours and Picnics to Hidden Spots
Embark on a unique architectural walk and explore French Colonial, Franco-Tamil and Tamil traditional buildings that are not generally open to the public. These specialised walks, led by an expert architect or Preservationist, are organised by Intach Pondicherry, the team that worked on the restoration of Kariappa House.
Travellers who love to explore at their own pace can chart out their personal heritage walk in the French Quarter. While guides offer curated tours, you can visit popular spots like Sri Aurobindo Ashram, the old lighthouse, the 100-year-old Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and more on your own. Just slip into airy, breathable clothes and your walking shoes, grab a bottle of water and head out to immerse yourself in the culture of Pondicherry.
If you wish to discover parts of Pondicherry known only to a few, sign up for the local tour curated by the hosts. They take you on an exclusive picnic where you can spend a memorable day with your fellow guests, visiting hidden scenic spots and taking a dip in a crystal-clear lake.

Meet the People
Kariappa House is the brainchild of Jyoti Cariappa Saikia and Kakoli. They envisioned this retreat as a place to share their love for Pondicherry's spiritual and global community with like-minded travellers. Being Reiki practitioners, they also designed this property to be a sanctuary for holistic well-being.
Keeping this dream alive is a dedicated staff led by the calm, hard-working Dileep. Vanaja, the housekeeping supervisor, is a warm soul and an excellent cook, working with a team of local women to keep the property running smoothly. And standing guard is Ramji, an army veteran beloved by guests for his friendly and helpful nature.
Sustainability Story
Living harmoniously with Pondicherry's local culture, tradition, and environment is a core value at Kariappa House — one that even guests are encouraged to embrace and uphold.
The hosts have thoughtfully infused eco-conscious practices across the property, from using natural materials during restoration to minimising single-use plastic. Waste is carefully recycled, while rainwater harvesting pits and energy-efficient solar energy systems are set up to reduce the burden on nature’s resources.
In essence, the property’s central idea of homely life is subtly linked with their commitment to responsible tourism, both fostering a deep appreciation for this Earth we call home.
