Sustainability Story
When Dato Chua Jui Leng first laid eyes on Pulau Tengah in the early 1990s, he instantly fell in love with it. His youngest daughter, Cher, often explored Pulau Tengah with him, envisioning what a resort there might look like one day. Later, she went to the UK to pursue her higher studies, but the idea of the resort truly took shape in 2009, during Cher and her husband Laurent's wedding.
A year later, Cher and Laurent relocated from London's financial district to return to Cher's native Malaysia. They dedicated themselves to realising the mission and vision of creating what would later become Batu Batu. Dive deeper into Batu Batu’s story of origin, from being a UNHCR transit refugee camp to a perfect island escape today.
Cher remains fully committed to her role, actively supporting Batu Batu's operational team. She especially concentrates on advancing the resort's environmental and sustainability initiatives.
This remarkable place not only fosters a profound connection with nature and self but also serves as an inspiration to be a responsible traveller.
