Conservation at their Core - Kenya

Everything hangs in the balance; our balance is between the 4Cs: conservation, community, culture and commerce. This journey starts with The Long Run, a sustainable travel movement, helping business, nature and people, work together for a better future. The three destinations you’ll be hosted at are all members of The Long Run, and continuously strive to excel in conserving nature and improve the wellbeing of the communities they belong to.

Through this trip we will take you through three thriving ecosystems and their biodiversity, and the conservation work that is safeguarding this biodiversity. You’ll be captivated by the contrasting cultures of Kenya, learning to celebrate cultural diversity and commonality; nurturing understanding and making life-long connections. All in the backdrop of Kenya’s vast rolling plains, adventurous and captivating activities and thrilling wilderness and wildlife encounters.

Some highlights of this unique sustainable safari will be; sharing stories and dancing with Maasai warriors by the campfire; meeting the all-female ranger teams in Laikipia and the Masai Mara; hopefully seeing the Big Five; watching the Segera bloodhounds’ team demonstrate their vital role of tracking for conservation; going on a rhino-tracking expedition; and much much more.

Through this trip we are working to help the travel industry take responsibility, and to help to protect wildlife and wild spaces that we all want to enjoy.

Tour Highlights!

Educate and immerse yourself with one of the newest critically important species in desperate need of help: the vulture. This experience includes both a talk in the Explorers Tent and a half day out in the field with the Kenya Bird of Prey Trust (KBOPT) for practical hands-on time.

Join the only all female ranger unit in the area and understand their goals and key challenges. When appropriate, participate in their daily activities patrolling, de-snaring, game counting and liaison with the community.

Learn of the unique natural wild food sources in the Maasai Mara. Values biodiversity and cultural understanding. Letilet has spent his life living off of the land. Walk with Letilet and gather seasonal interesting ingredients that our chef will develop into a wonderful tasting experience.

Visit a local Samburu and/or Maasai village to find out more about the rich culture of these nomadic Kenyan tribes.

Join our Maasai team and learn the skills of a Maasai warrior. All ages, from seven to seventy, are welcome to participate, and activities are tailored to the interest of the guest and their generation.

Learn more about the behind-the-scenes work that goes into conservation and meet the team that keep our Rhino safe.

If ever there was an iconic, dramatic backdrop then this would be it. You'll be in awe in the shadow of this majestic mountain.
